From Portman Road to New York: the story behind Stand4 Socks

If you’re an Ipswich Town fan, you’ll know the club follows you wherever you go.
For Josh Turner, that’s definitely been the case.
Josh went to school in Ipswich and grew up just outside Stowmarket. He’s been an Ipswich Town supporter since he was a kid, and for years he was a season ticket holder with his family, and like many of us he has seen us through the ups and the downs.
These days, he is based in New York, and is an active member of the Ipswich Town North America Supporters Club and its New York Chapter. The move to the US came about from a desire to expand his Stand4 Socks business, one that started ten years ago with one simple mission:
Buy one pair, and a pair gets donated to someone experiencing homelessness.
A quick check of the website tells me that the total stands at a whopping 828,394 pairs donated!

Over the years, Stand4 has gone from a Suffolk-born idea into a serious brand with national attention — including a feature on Dragons’ Den.
The company has also worked on socks for some huge names, including:
• Ed Sheeran
• Michael Sheen
• Louis Theroux
Not bad for a business that started with the belief that socks could be more than just something you throw on in the morning.
Dyslexia — and why it’s part of the story
Josh is also open about being dyslexic, and how it’s shaped him as a founder.
For him, dyslexia has come with challenges — but also a lot of benefits: creativity, resilience, and the ability to think differently. It’s played a big role in how he’s built Stand4 and navigated the reality of starting a business from scratch.
